Here is a piece from Sam Steer of the Royal College of Art. “The Beast I Am” has a fun quietly dark and edgy 60’s feel while sweetly dealing with the protagonist’s, err, um, growing tensions. Read on to hear from Sam.

It is a film about exploring the depths of the adolescent experience using some of the characters from greek and roman myth. It was an authentically labyrinthine experience to make, not least due to being stuck in the basement of the RCA for 9 months and being reduced to almost beast-like status in the process.

I used a Canon 1000D, Dragonframe, and a large sheet steel table so that I could use magnets partly in order to cut down on the post-production de-rigging.

It was inspired by a piece of music by R. Murray Schafer, the sculptures at the British Museum and of course the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.
