What kind of stepper motor to use?

Postby tordrengen » Fri Feb 17, 2012 2:18 am

Hi Dragonframe users

I would like to make a very simple Motion control rig using Arduino and only one stepper motor. Is there a good guide/tutorial online for making motion control systems with Arduino?

I will try to buy a Arduino Uno and a easydriver, but what kind of stepper motor is the best? There is a lot to choose from, some are cheap, small, expensive etc.

What are your experiences?

Thanks in advance.

That all depends on the load you are trying to move. The easy driver and big easy driver only drive bi-polar motors. So you will need to purchase a bi-polar motor.

Here is a nice guide to make a DIY motion control with arduino:

you can note theres an entry whith a code for dragon too

he uses a 6 wire unipolar motor, like the one on the iota 3d slider.
