Animator Chris Butcher races away with the top prize in the ‘Open: Stopmotion’ category of the 2011 Redbull CANIMATION Awards, a new yearly competition in England offering budding animators an opportunity to progress their skills and careers in the field through a series of prizes. Winners are awarded internships at top animation studios: Aardman, The Mill, and 12foot6. Their films are also featured in this month’s ‘Ad Break Takeover Documentary’ on Channel 4 in Britain, as well as taking part in the British Animation Awards Public Choice Tour 2012. We speak in depth with Chris about his approach.
ZPZtudio‘s beautiful Luminaris has been shortlisted for an Oscar as Best Animated Short Film. The official nominees for the category will be announced on January 24th. The Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
Director Peter Sluszka of Hornet Films has taken animation to the next virtual dimension with this scoping and dynamic project for PNC. Based on the song ‘the Twelve Days of Christmas,’ the animation is part of an elaborate interactive website that lightheartedly teaches us about economics by tracking the fluctuating prices of the twelve sets of gifts from the classic carol. Beyond entertaining, it will be used as a teaching aid in schools across the country.
Passion Pictures delivered a key piece of stop motion for Martin Scorsese’s new feature film HUGO. The Dragonframe team was contacted early on in the production to supply an anamorphic conversion preview within our software. They also used our IOTA 3D Slider because the movie was shot in 3D.
