This new music video for Modernage delivers a raw, gritty, yet modern approach to animation. Assemblage, raw textural xeroxes, post production symmetry, and abstract mechanisms grace this video with an uncanny continuity.

Maybe it’s the rough textures and strange sculptural elements that resonate with the fuzzy electric guitars. The visceral compositions and rough footage are reminiscent of one of my personal heros in music design history, Vaughan Oliver, who was responsible for a vast majority of record label 4AD’s visuals. Similarly, the sound of Modernage is in line with the raw progressive ideologies of 4AD.
